The Quest For Starbucks crew: |
It all started several years ago when "Off The Wall" radio host Emmanuel Goldstein realized that he had somehow never set foot inside of a Starbucks. This in fact was a Big Deal. And it needed to be exploited one way or another.
In early 2006, Emmanuel made a vow. He would, in fact, step over the threshold into a Starbucks. But there were two places he wanted to visit first: Cuba and North Korea. Later that year, Emmanuel visited Cuba and in 2007 managed to make it to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The stage was now set.
Negotiations took place for the next 28 months until a system was finally devised that allowed for the first Starbucks that Emmanuel will set foot in to be devised fairly and without bias. We obtained (don't ask) a list of every Starbucks in the world and, beginning with the January 26, 2010 edition of "Off The Wall," we began to narrow the list down. A lot.
For all of 2010, anything seemed possible. Starbucks in places like Dubai and Hong Kong were in the running, only to have their hopes dashed in the final weeks. Over 10,000 locations were eliminated in the course of the drawings. The competition grew fierce and the spirit really caught on at the radio station, some say a bit too much. But how could such excitement possibly be subdued? It comes down to just two locations, incredibly both located in California. And on December 7, 2010, the winner was finally decided.
